Designing a MCC room

I need to give a contractor dimensions for a room that will contain a 90" high MCC.

I'm confused about how high the ceiling needs to be above it. I've read 110-26, but still have questions about what the allowable height is between the top of the MCC and the "structural ceiling".

Thanks

Kevin I do not see a ht. clearance limitation if it is completly enclosed equipment (then combustible clearance must be maintained )and as long as the requirements under 05' NEC 110.26 are followed.

There is no minimum height for the structural ceiling. But there can't be foreign systems less than 6' above the top of the MCC.

So to clarify, I could theoretically install a MCC in a room whose ceiling is only 6 inches above the top of the MCC. And there can not be foreign systems any where between the top of the MCC and the structural ceiling within a distance of 6 feet if the ceiling extends to that height.(?)

If the structural ceiling is below 6 feet can you run foreign systems above the ceiling (i.e. outside the room above roof) and less than 6 feet above MCC?

Thanks for your responses.

Kevin, Don't forget to make sure you have the entrance door or doors opens correct. Not sure how large of service your putting in.

That sounds correct, but I would suggest leaving enough room above the MCC to get conduits out. The bare minimum I would normally consider would be enough room for a 4" conduit to 90 degree turn plus some. But thats an enginnering decision, not a code requirement.

Thanks All....I wasn't sure. Seems like if you can't have foreign systems within a 6 foot distance above the MCC, nor should you be allowed to have a ceiling...Seems contradictory to some degree.

I'll definielty leave a minimum of 3 feet or so between the top of the MCC and structural ceiling, I just wanted to make sure my structural ceiling didn't have to be 6 feet above the top of the MCC.

Again...Thanks for you input.
