I have a question and I hope you can help me. Is a sub panel REQUIRED for a detached garage? I’m trying to find something within the 2020 NEC book, but I can’t find a straight answer.
 
A sub panel would be required if you had more circuits than the number that can be supplied by a single MWBC. So if you 2 or 3 circuits as part of a MWBC you would not need the panel.
