I am building a detached workshop. My home is 150 ft from the meter. It has 4/0 Al ser to a 200 amp panel. The neutral and ground are not separated. There are 3 conductors. The meter has a main breaker shutoff after the meter and in the panel in the house, both 200 amp. My question is in regards to the service in the workshop. I put in a 125 amp panel and it will be connected to the meter about 10 ft from meter. There will be main cutoff breakers in the meter panel and workshop panel. My understanding is everything after the meter is considered a subpanel since there is a main breaker in the meter panel. Since the neutral and ground are not separated in the house 150 ft away, do they need to be in the workshop? I plan on 1/0 Al to workshop since it is so close to meter, does it need 3 or 4 conductors? Not terribly worried about new code, just "what will work". Don't want to inadvertantly electrify the ground.
