DG power cable routed through SWGR?

I have a situation where a 1200 A 480 V MCC feeder circuit from an outdoor SWGR is having a DG tied in through a manual transfer switch. It is cheaper to route the cables out the gear to the outdoor manual transfer switch and route the load side of the transfer switch back into the SWGR and to the building MCC using the same underground duct. Notes: 1. This is an unmanned pumping station. 2. The service cables feed the bus in the gear. 3. This is an optional standby system.

The question is "is this prohibited" or do you have to route separate underground ducts outside the gear? It is a good idea to keep them separated in the event of a fire in the gear, but is it required?
