During a lunch hour technical discussion amongst my group, this question came up.
I don’t have a copy of 2017 yet. Did this get fixed?
- 2011 edition, Informational Note Figure 517.30, No. 1 showed the Life Safety and Critical Branches collectively as the “Emergency System.” These two plus the Equipment Branch are shown collectively as “Essential Electrical System.”
- Same figure in the 2014 edition removed the “Emergency System” designation, but retains the title of “Essential Electrical System” for the three branches.
- OK so far.
- 2011 edition, article 517.34 says that the Equipment Branch can be automatically or manually reenergized after the “Emergency System” is reenergized.
- Since the 2014 edition removed the term “Emergency System” from this context, its article 517.34 says that the Equipment Branch can be automatically or manually reenergized after the “Essential Electrical System” is reenergized.
- That is absurd! You can’t wait to turn something on until after that very same thing is turned on.
- Anyone ever read Catch 22?
- I found four errata on the 2014 edition. None of them addressed this issue.
