Hello from the New Guy

I am looking for some info on your NEC Article 514

Part of my project involves running a supply pipe from a Diesel fuel tank to a Diesel generator. I am planning on running power down to the Diesel fuel pump via ridgid conduit along side the fuel line.

Now with the following info my assumption is that I do not have to do anything "Special" as far as the wiring goes.

Am I correct?

Article 514 - Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities

NEC Article 514.3 (A) Unclassified Locations

Where the authority having jurisdiction can satisfactorily determine that flammable liquids having a flash point below 38?C (100?F) will not be handled, the location need not be classified. Gasoline has a flashpoint lower than this limit, so its presence prohibits the area from being declassified.

I then googled the flash point of Diesel and came up with

Fuel
Flash point
Autoignition
temperature

Diesel
>62 ?C (144 ?F)
210 ?C (410 ?F)

Thanks ahead of time from a Canadian NEWBIE!:bye:

As a general rule, diesel may be ignored for electrical area classification purposes. Sections 514.11 & 13 still generally apply since the installation is not classified location specific in those Sections and they are still within the scope of Section 514.1.
