I believe LT and HT are over the pond terms for low voltage and hi voltage.

Ksaini, the reason you can not exchange these cables is because the cable insulation for LT cable is
not rated for the higher voltage. EG. a 600 volt cable can not be use on a 4000 volt system because
the 600 volt insulation can not operate at 4000 volts even though the ampacity is the same.

Low tension and high tension I think.

I'm from over that pond.
And I have heard the low tension and high tension terms mentioned. But not in about a hundred years.
LV, MV, HV yes.
But our definitions are probably different to yours.

In Europe, usually in Latin language [as French, Spanish, Italien, Romanian] speaking countries the word used for "voltage" is "tension?. However, even in IEC 60038 Standard Voltages the used word is "voltage" not ?tension?. I don't see why in India-I read in some posts-the term "tension" is still used.

Tension was used prior to the 1970's in US, but voltage was also. High tension lines for high voltage lines for instance.

It is very interesting indeed. However, I have with me PENDER DEL MAR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERINGS? HANDBOOK Vol. IV and V Third Edition from 1936.No mention of ?tension? at all. In ch. 14 POWER TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS the term ?high-voltage transmission line? is employed only.
