You guys ever see twelve hundred lights on a Christmas tree? I have, they are in my livingroom and it is blinding. I see no reason that they can't be dimmed? Do you? Other option>>>>>

Take a couple strings out, ya goob.

Do we ALWAYS have to find the hardest means to an end? :D

Remember to set your calendar and get those down before the 90 day mark now...

The only problem I can see scott is that you might actually have enough bulbs that the tiny inductance of each of them can cause enough total inductance that you'd need a magnetic dimmer.

Not that I would ever go to one of those kind of establishments but of the few I've seen not many are electricly legal.

Re: Dimming X mas lights

Have you considered the heat dissipation? That baby might even get brighter

Re: Dimming X mas lights

Unfortunately the lights came already attached to the tree and there is no way that I could remove a strand or two. The little Chinese kids that put this thing together are quite the perfectionists. I guess this serves me right for getting a fake tree.

Re: Dimming X mas lights

You know, Scott, my grandfather used to have this thing with one light bulb and a motorized thing with four different color lenses in it that spun around in front of the light. It made the tree change colors (and the wall too), what's wrong with just using one of those? :)

Re: Dimming X mas lights

What's up with this 90 day limit you guys keep talking about in some verious posts? :)

Re: Dimming X mas lights

527.3
(B) 90 Days. Temporary electrical power and lighting installations shall be permitted for a period not to exceed 90 days for holiday decorative lighting and similar purposes.
2002 NEC
The 2005 moved this article again.

Re: Dimming X mas lights

I'd can picture what brought that code into being.

"Ronnie, the Jefferson's still haven't taken their Christmas lights down! It's January 4th already! They're making this whole neighborhood look like a trailer park! Someone should do something! Ronnie? Are you listening?"
"Yes, dear..."
"Well, you're on that fancy code-making-electrical panel committee! All those years of paid tuition and you still haven't called your parents to thank them for that fruit basket! If you don't do something I'm gonna call Frank with the homeowner's association and..."

Yeah, I don't know where I was going with that either...
