One would think that "direct buried pole light" would provide 0 lumens to the surface
(sorry..devil made me do it..... just the manner in which the question struck me)

The noun is pole so maybe direct burial light pole would be better.
My experience is limited to dealing with utilities who use them all the time. You'll need to look at wind rating since you're in Lousiana there. You can possibly get an importance factor of 0.9. Direct burial poles are used for utilities all the time, for both cabling and lighting, and they work very well.
As to time savings to install, I can't attest to that if you're wondering if it's faster when you don't have to pour a foundation, but it seems it would be. And utilities do things on a large scale, which makes it logical that it's more efficient.
