Re: directional boring equipment

I just saw a situation where the POCO set street lighting.Done when all construction was said and done.Directional bored through yards under driveways. They actually penetrated 3 sewer lines and hooked up when done.It was found New years when MR. new happy H/O`r had a party and the sewage backed up.Lawn dug up,.Street lighting conductors right through the sewage line YUCK!

Re: directional boring equipment

We are required to "Call Before You Dig" in the state of Indiana (state law). The problem is that the sewers are never located because they are always deeper that where we are going. There are times when we go right through the sewer lines because they are not close to the depth that they are supposed to be. The laterals are supposed to be below the frost line. When they get cut, they get to fix them (sorry about the mess). :D

Re: directional boring equipment

I don't know what all the stinks about ( :D ) all the sewage in central and South FL is coming to the surface anyways.

Directional Boring equipment... Is that a professor's projector? Wide screen projectors cables are permitted to be chord and plug to a typical 20A circuit:) You may also want to make it shunt trip incase you desire to turn his projector off when he gets really boring.

Re: directional boring equipment

We use directional boring on a regular basis for replacing cable that has failed and will pull in either cable or conduit. I have found nothing in either the Code or the UL White book about directional boring except what Charlie has already posted.

If the manufacturer's directions say you may use the cable or conduit with directions boring equipment, then go for it. Just like pulling cable into conduit though, don't go too far or you will damage what you are pulling.

BTW Article 353 is new for the 2005 NEC but doesn't give permission for use with directional boring equipment. :D

Re: directional boring equipment

HDPE conduit is the type used in directional boring. We accept boring as of now with the use of a cable locator for burial depth
