I'm doing a directional boring job on monday and I want to make sure I'm not violating 300.5 (K). I am boring under a road 40' long. Is regular SCH-40 rigid PVC conduit listed for directional boring? Can I glue these 10' sections together and not be in violation?

300.5(K) uses the phrase, "...shall be approved for the purpose."

In definitions: Approved. Acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.

You need to contact your AHJ...

How deep under the road bed ? SCH 40 should be fine if deep enough.
Glue the pieces together and give them lots of time to set. You may consider if using bell end pvc putting the couplings so they run smooth edge into the pulling direction.

Enough time maybe if you're using just pvc glue. If you use the cleaner and then the pvc glue on each connection you will not have a problem. That cleaing first makes a huge difference.

I've never had much luck with PVC at those distances, but I know that others have. I just do IMC for the bored distance when it's getting pushed or pulled underground.

Are you talking about the purple primer or is there another cleaner I am not aware of ?

Here when they bore, they hook onto the bit and pull back HDPE (high density polyethylene which is flexible, orange and has no couplings). We install PVC elbows and terminate with PVC on our end.

If they bore it and leave it for you to push/pull pipe into, what keeps the hole from collapsing when they pull out??

"orange" ?

Why am I seeing HDPE stamped conduit reels that are gray ?

I agree. . The cleaner actually melts the top surface of the PVC and creates a great connection for the glue.
