Attention: Secretaries, Membership Committee Chairs, Education Committee Chairs, and Code Panel Members

It is with regret that I inform you that Mike Johnston, Director of Education, Codes and Standards is departing from IAEI. Mike is leaving IAEI to take a position with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) on February 1, 2008.

Mike will be sorely missed but IAEI will continue to provide the great educational material and services that you have become accustomed to. Even though Mike Johnston will not be our go-to person, we still have a great team to carry on our mission. Keith Lofland will continue to be the contact person for scheduling and procuring instructors to meet your needs. He also will be the department leader during the interim period as we seek a Director of Education, Codes and Standards.

You can help in this process by getting the word out to our members and other interested parties about the job opportunity. Attached is a job announcement for the position of Director of Education, Codes and Standards for distribution. We will post the announcement on our web site, iaei.org, and publish it in the next issue of the IAEI News. The next issue of the News will not come out until March 2008 which will delay the process. Please help us fill the vacant position as soon as possible by communicating the need with your Chapter or Division members and other industry partners.

If you have information, questions, or concerns, please contact me at jcarpenter@iaei.org.

Sincerely,

James W. Carpenter

CEO & Executive Director

While I appreciate the IAEI for making the issue public and soliciting for the open position, I am quite certain Mr. Carpenter has put together a 3-5person "wish list".

I am also certain ALL of the minimum requirements for the position are not listed in the above news release. Here's what they left out:

1. Must have served on a NFPA 70 - CMP on behalf of the IAEI. Chairing that panel is a plus.

2. Must have served as an officer or board of director member in the IAEI at the Section or International Level.

3. Must currently hold an equivalent position at an organization of similar stature. (NFPA, UL, NEMA, ICC, ect...)

4. Must be a published author of an IAEI sponsored product or have reoccurring articles in a nationally distributed magazine such as NECdigest, IAEI News, EC mag, ect...

I am looking forward to see who ends up in the position. It will likely be a known and respected member of the industry...

Right here.
Regardless of your union affiliation or not, I think that most observers can agree that NECA is blazing a trail with regard to trade education and the enhancement of standard trade practices. The hiring of Mr. Johnston is another demonstration of this commitment.

I am willing to bet that Mike is taking the position that went vacant when Brooke Staufer passed away.

Bryan
From my experience dealing with you from this and other sites, you are more than qualified for the position
When Mike started with the IAEI he did not have the credentials he is leaving with.

Mike did a great job at the IAEI and with many good code changes to Art 250.

The IAEI is not gaining much membership, will be interesting to see who applies/
