I have a disconnect switch that has had the internals removed and it is presently being used as a jb. As I am not well versed all the code sections, I don't believe this is an acceptable installation but unsure of what article would it be violating. From reading the code I think it would be 110.3 based on it being listed as a disconnect switch not a jb and and not used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and labeling.

I would appreciate any opinions and perhaps there are other code sections that would apply. It is on 480V circuit in an industrial plant.

Thank you in advance.

I would have no problems with using a disconnect switch enclosure for that purpose. Based on 312.8, the switch enclosure, is a suitable location for making splices.
