Hi,

i am running a 240 volt, 50 amp line to an electric welder NEMA 6-50. I see that a disconnect is required but can a CB serve as a disconnect 25' away line of sight? Or do I need a disc at the welder itself. I don't believe the welder has a built in disconnect and I don't believe a cord and receptacle would satisfy the requirements for a disc. I'm wondering if a CB 25' away line of sight will suffice? Thanks

630.13 Disconnecting Means
An identified disconnecting means shall be provided in the
supply circuit for each arc welder that is not equipped with a
disconnect mounted as an integral part of the welder.
The disconnecting means shall be a switch or circuit
breaker, and its rating shall be not less than that necessary to
accommodate overcurrent protection as specified under
630.12.

I don't see anything that requires the circuit breaker to be less than 25' away or be line of sight.

By 630.13, could one disconnect (breaker) serve multiple welders?

If a disco near the unit/LoS is not required, why even have 630.13? Are branch circuits ever allowed w/o OCPD? Does "in the supply circuit" preclude the use of the welder breaker in the (sub) panel?
