Re: disconnect line/load top/bottom

Disconnects are usually fed from the top, but panels that feed from either top or bottom are common.

Re: disconnect line/load top/bottom

Circuit breakers, without markings, can be fed from the bottom as well as the top. Circuit breakers must be installed with the ON position up unless they are allowed to be mounted horizintally.

Fusible switches need to be fed so that the fuses are "dead" when the switch is open. This results in the general requirement that disconnect knife/blades be de-energized when the switch is open.

Re: disconnect line/load top/bottom

Could someone help with a code reference
"Circuit breakers must be installed with the ON position up.......". 380-7 is within Article 380-Switches. The scope of 380-1 says it applies when a circuit breaker is used as a switch. A switch as defined in Article 100, would not include a distribution breaker.

Re: disconnect line/load top/bottom

240.81 Indicating.
Circuit breakers shall clearly indicate whether they are in the open ?off? or closed ?on? position.

Where circuit breaker handles are operated vertically rather than rotationally or horizontally, the ?up? position of the handle shall be the ?on? position.
