disconnect means

I have a piece of permanent equipment (3 hp-480V motor) that came with a male 480V 20A twist lock cord cap. Can I feed the motor with a cord drop from the ceiling with a female 480V 20A cord cap and use them has a disconnect means? I have done it years ago in different plants, but just not sure now. Thank you

The cord cap can be used as a disconnecting means if it is listed as such. Make sure you look at 400.5 for the cord ampacity requirements - we use #10 SO cord for 20A cord drops here.

Cords aren't permitted for permanent equipment, so it would be best to ask the AHJ what "permanent" is in his mind.
