Disconnect Platform

I am looking at installing metal grating in front of disconnects to improve traction while operating 480v disconnects. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is there a code that would tell me grounding rules with this type of situation?

Some type of rubber floor mat would be a better choice in my opinion. Page 2655 of Grainger catalog # 403 would be a place to start.

The disconnects are indoors in wet/muddy locations and we were told by someone that we have to put something there to improve traction. Rubber matting would just get coated with dirt/mud and not help much. There is the fiberglass option, but we don't want to run into issues were they are getting destroyed (nothing lasts to long here).

I do not know of any requirements for bonding metal flooring grates used as floor mats.

It is a concrete floor.

I would not do any additional grounding of these grates.

It might be cool if you could use a non-metallic grate but certainly not required.

You could go with rubber 'drainage mat'.

The only "issue" I would have with grating is that unless it's recessed flush with the concrete, it bceomes a trip hazzard.

They are not flush with the floor, we are painting them yellow to make them more identifiable. The issue I am still having is that the governing safety group is telling me that I have to ground them. I can not find anything in NEC or 70E that discusses this type of situation.

Concrete, especially wet is a pretty good conductor. Think UFER!
