I have a fractional HP (1/4hp) small blower motor in a section of ductwork, do I need to provide a disconnect? This is a big deal since there are 400 of these blower motors in the building I'm working in. My job is to replace the motors and currently there is not a disconnect.

Simple toggle switch can be the disconnect, but yes they do need a disconnect within sight of the motor in nearly all instances. Chances are you have a junction box already nearby to connect a short piece of flex or some other "whip" all you need is a switch and switch cover instead of a blank cover. If 120 volts use a cheap residential grade wall switch - probably cost less then a dollar.

It is better from the maintenance point of view because you don't need to go near to the panel to turn off the breaker. Same as we provide disconnect for the VAVs and FCUs.
