A customer requirement I've encountered is that for all fuse disconnecting means, they want the line side isolated in a separate compartment than where the fuse holder is set so that when changing the fuses, no one is exposed to any live wires. I've tried to inquire if they would be comfortable with us putting some plexiglass or other non-conductive guard around the line side lugs, but they are adamant they want the fuse portion completely isolated.
Eaton makes a product that they've point meets this requirement:
However, Eaton's lead times are somewhat inconsistent right now so I was looking into other options. I'm not aware of another make/model that is set up this way. I've pondered with obtaining a non-fused disconnect and routing that to an enclosure with a fuse holder, however I'm concerned our local AHJ's and utilities may not accept this as they like they prefer UL listed equipment with the first point of interconnection being an overcurrent protection device.
They will accept placing a circuit breaker in front of the fused compartment, but I find circuit breaker and accompanying enclosure lead times to be just as long (if not longer) than the aforementioned estimate from Eaton.
Is anyone aware of a manufacturer that makes something like Eaton's product?
