I have a 400A disc service tap ahead of incoming service to feed a separate new building, this new building is about 50-60 feet from the main building. Is there a code requirement where I need another disconnect means on that separate building? so I will have a 400A disc in the main building and another one in the new building

Yes, each separate building requires a disconnecting means at or nearest the entry of the conductors into the building.

In general a disconnect is required at each building, even if there is already one elsewhere. There is one exception I believe. Can't give you the exact code reference now, it's somewhere in 225.

The exception to which you refer is in 225.32. It allows the disconnecting means to be "elsewhere on the premises" if several conditions are met. These include single management, documented switching procedures, and monitored by qualified individuals.

I always find it pertinent to ask the question:

Why would you not want to have a separate building disconnect? Regardless of what the minimum safety requirements allow.

As long as the conductors don't enter building 1, I believe you're correct. However, the 400a disco seems to already be installed.

I'm thinking that since there are no tap conductors only SEC's that they can be of unlimited length as long as they're remain outside of the main building.
