Some RTU units have an internal disconnecting means from the factory...where in the code does it state that the factory internal disconnect meets the requirements for equipment shut down
It can be internal if the cover has thumb screws.Right, it must be externally accessible.
I consider that to be accessible. It can be internal if the cover has thumb screws.
It can be internal if the cover has thumb screws.
But that is dangerous because if someone tightens the thumb screw with pliers, the universe will collapse into a singularityI consider that to be accessible.
I think that is generally not true. Although it seems logical to have the disconnect external and detached from the unit, I dont think its ever required is it? for example, here is the 440 requirement:I agree that the integral disconnect can serve as the disconnecting means for the unit but why have a heard a hundred times that the disconnecting means must removal all power to the unit. Or in other words it must be external to the unit.
I'm hearing that it's an OSHA or some other safety requirement that the unit will have no live parts when the disconnecting means is opened.I think that is generally not true. Although it seems logical to have the disconnect external and detached from the unit, I dont think its ever required is it? for example, here is the 440 requirement:
440.14 Location. Disconnecting means shall be located within sight from, and readily accessible from the air-conditioning or refrigerating equipment. The disconnecting means shall be permitted to be installed on or within the air-conditioning or refrigerating equipment.
Perhaps, I don't know nuttin' 'bout that.I'm hearing that it's an OSHA or some other safety requirement that the unit will have no live parts when the disconnecting means is opened.
