So I read through the sub panel post a few days back..
as the 60A conductors have a breaker back at the "main"
could you install a 60a rated throw switch as the means of disconnect, or does it have to be another breaker ... and does it have to be in the same panel???

the more I learn the more confused I get.
thanks !!!!

Re: "Disconnecting means"

If you are supplying a single utilization equpiment at a remote source from the "main" panel, the disconnecting means at that location can be a switch and does not have to be a OCD. It must be rated to the size of the OCD protecting the conductors feeding that equipment.

You can feed a sub-panel without a main as long as it is in the same building. You have the feeder fused at the main panel with your 60 amp breaker and this is all that is required. You could put a distribution panel in say a bedroom or a garage. this panel could have from one to twelve or more breakers in it, as long as it does not exceed the calculated load per article 220
