Dishwasher outlet

Can I install an outlet for dishwasher behind it in the wall. New construction. I Would put a cord on dishwasher.
Or does it have to be in the sink cabinet. where it can be accessible.?

Are you still on 2014 code?
If so, it can be behind the dishwasher or in the adjacent cabinet.

2017 and later requires it in an adjacent cabinet

Either way that install should never have been compliant IMO. Many dishwasher come with cord and plug so you have no alternative but to install the receptacle in the sink cabinet.

In NC they used to allow us to float a metal sw box with a switch under the dishwasher. Most of them we wired in recent years have no access under the unit. Not sure this should have been compliant either

You might be correct. If the receptacle is behind the unit it will require a lockout on the circuit breaker.
