Hi guys .

A couple of days ago i posted the same thread but i didn't get any reply. I am a new member here so maybe it didn't get posted.

If someone has the knowledge, please let me know.

We are laying MV cables (15 KV) (armored cu /xlpe) in an open trench.

Adjacent (parallel) to it, we are laying fiber optic cables (non-metallic direct buried type).

Is there any standard that specifies the minimum distance between these 2 cables based on the fact that Fiber Optic cables are not affected by any EMI that could be generated by the adjacent MV cable.
and Can i lay them in the same trench ?

Thank you

We're not ignoring you - but both together is not my normal range of knowledge - But the safe answer is no.... If there were a wire strength member, sheilding or foil as some fiber cables have - it could become a danger. Assuming this is a long run?

If the complete cable is non metallic, I dont see a problem, but if there is any metal in the FO, It could be induced with a charge due to running paralell to the HV cable.

Put the cable in the bottom. Put 12" of dirt on it then the fiber optic on top. Then fill the ditch up.

I agree- they're really not even in the "same trench" then. Run a string of red plastic a few inches above the FO, "CAUTION BURIED CABLE" or something on it for the backhoe operator to see before he slices through the FO and then the MV...

I heard that the US Govt has a HV cable with FO in it, FO is easy to tap, but not in a HV cable.
NEC allows non conductive FO in the same raceway box or enclosure with power and lighting.
