Distance between recessed lights and ceiling fan

How far apart do you usually install recessed lights from a ceiling fan to prohibit 'strobing ' effect? Also, what if the ceiling fan is on a 12" down rod? Thank you

Depends on the fan diameter. I never put cans too close to a fan for that reason, usually I do a little geometry to figure it out.

I aways used the rule of a Can will put a 9' circle on the floor at 9' of height. Using that, I do a little sketch like the picture. In your case, with a 12" down rod the bottom fan will probably be around 24" so that's what I used. I wouldn't put the cans any closer than 48" to the center of the fan. Hope this helps.

Also depends on how many other lights are present. If you have high density of lights, one directly behind a fan may not even be noticeable as far as strobe effect.
