Distance between supports for bare ground wire?

I was wondering if there is a code for the amount of distance between supports for 6awg bare copper in a residential setting. I was running ground wire from the panel to the cold water meter in a basement and a journeyman I work with told me it has to be supported every 24". I've never heard of this rule and after spending some time looking in the code book and online I cant find any current codes requiring it to be supported every 24". Any information on this subject would be very helpful, thank you.

250.64(b) securely fastened to the surface on which it is carried! Every 24” is not a code requirement!

I follow 4 or 5 ft since I use stranded and am used to stapling romex.
