Distance from electrical panel

How far away from an electrical panel does a Telecommunications rack need to be? I have heard everything from 30" to 36". Does it need to be away from just the front of the panel or does it also include the sides of the electrical panel?

Re: Distance from electrical panel

Assuming a 42 circuit panel of less than 1200A normal panel clearances would apply- 30" centered on the panel and 3' in front.

Re: Distance from electrical panel

Couldn't the rack be next to the panel say with little or no separation and the 30" dimension be from the point where they are adjacent to each other to a point across the front of the panel 30" away? There is no requirement for the panel to be centered in the 30" dimension.

Re: Distance from electrical panel

If there is enough space for the 30 inch space to be measured from one side of the panel, the Tele-rack could be on the other side, next to the panel...as per the NEC.

The distance that it could be next to the electrical panel without electrical interference may be a different answer.
