Hello all, could you show the calculation using #10 THHN? I am retired now and it’s been quite a few years since I’ve
taken Mike’s class in Tamarac.

I believe you use Kirchhoff’s law. We had to learn it in tech school, never used it since. Just like algebra!

If you are asking about finding distance by measuring the resistance of the conductor then you also need to know the ambient temperature of the conductor to get the most accuracy. Resistance tables in NEC are based on a specific temperature. Table 8 and 9 are both based on 75C.

Other thing is there can be (and probably is some) resistance in the fault itself.
