What is to be considered the distribution point in this sentence as stated in 700.9(B)

Wiring from an emergency source or emergency source distribution overcurrent protection to emergency loads shall be kept entirely independent of all other wiring and equipment

Is this the breaker on the emergency generator, or the disconnect as the feeder enters the building? The switch board? What if we have 700, 701, and 702 in the same panleboard, is this independent?

On the jobs I have worked in MA and RI this has always been the first breaker from the source.

In other words the breaker on the generator.

If we had 700, 701 and 702 systems all from the same generator we would use a generator with 2 or 3 separate breakers mounted on it.

I have always believed the idea is to keep a short circuit or ground fault in the 701 or 702 systems from bringing down the 700 systems.
