I have been getting conflicting information as to whether or not diesel locomotive cable is permitted or not permitted for power circuits within a UL 508A industrial control panel.

UL 508A 29.2.1 lists Machine Tool Wire UL 1063, thermoset insulated wire UL 44, thermoplastic wire UL 83and Appliance wire UL 758.It also shows that "welding cable" must be installed properly but DLO is not mentioned nor excluded. Does DLO fit into any of teh listed wire types?

Is DLO permitted for internal panel wiring?

SOME of the DLO cable that is on the market is dual listed as RHH/RHW and is UL listed as such. THAT is the only type you can use in a UL panel and what you do is size it to the nearest AWG size BELOW the size of the DLO cable, because it is an oddball size. In addition, most mechanical lugs on the market are NOT rated for terminating high strand-count cables such as DLO, so you end up needing to use compression fittings, and there are specific compression fittings and associated dies for it.
