DLO Cables

Good Morning.

This is a continuation of my previous question relative to DLO cables for an automatic transfer switch. Previous responses suggested that DLO cables are not an approved NEC wiring method. Which I would agree with.

My question today do equipment manufacturer's also have to abide by the same rules and regulations as I an electrical engineer or if I was an electrical contractor as well.

I have attached a shop drawing requiring DLO cables as highlighting.

Thank you for time reviewing my question.

FWIW, I think 100% of the DLO that I have run, has also been RHH/RHW type rated.
A different way to look at the same issue...

MOST of what is sold as DLO is dual listed as RHH/RHW, so it can be used in UL-508A listed panels. I had ASS-u-me'd that ALL DLO was and bought some from Harbor Freight once in a pinch, learned the hard way that it is not 100%, which is why I said 99%.

That drawing is basically typical of a "lazy" draftsman who didn't check (or bother with) the details...

IMHO a better question is why do so many people think "I want DLO" when they want "fine-strand cord that's NEC compliant"? I mean, if they looked in article 400, they'd see W and SC and S but not "DLO"; if they look in the entire 300s they won't find it, either.

A lot of it is that DLO is just used as a generic term, but you are correct you won't find "DLO" in the NEC. However a lot of DLO is also marked at RHH or RHW, making it compliant for use in NEC applications.
