680.42 says you shall comply with the provisions of part I and part II of this article.
680.22A3 says were a permanently installed pool is installed at a dwelling unit(s), no fewer than one 125-volt 15-20-ampere receptical on a general-purpose branch circuit shall be located not less than 3.0M (10') from and not more than 6.0M (20')
from the inside wall of the pool.
This receptacle shall be located not more than 6'6" above the floor, platform, or grade level serving the pool.
Or does the size of the tub matter?

Why do you ask questions when you know the answers? :D

Or does the size of the tub matter?
No, the size of the tub isn't specified in Part IV. Basically, if it is listed as a spa or a hot tub, you need to comply with Part IV. ;)

George yes you need to comply with IV but that says you must comply with parts I & II and II is talking about pemanently installed pools and in part I you can get the definition of a permanently installed pool and to me that says the tub size matters.
I was told to put in a plug by are inspector because part II says you need one.but is a shallow hot tub a permanently installed pool. I say no.

do you think it would be better for hem to plug the radio into a rec. through an open window and have it knocked into the tub accedentally? Why not just follow the code. Most hot tubs are fixed in place for at least a couple years, instead of rolled up as a temp. pool. Why would you say that a tub that costs $900 to hook up electrically would not warrent a rec. and is temp.?

John, I didn't mean to imply that Part I was to be ignored. In following Part IV, you are directed to Parts I & II, that's pretty hard to miss. :)

Yeah, I'd agree with that. 680.22(A)(3). The OP'er had that part figured out, and it just took me five minutes to find it! :D :D
