Hi everyone, I'm a homeowner trying to solve a very simple question (hopefully).
Do I need a grounding rod on my shed? I have a golf simulator in it but it doesn't have power except for the extension cords I have running from the house. It's an all wood shed with a roof made of leftover shingles I had when the main house roof was put on. It sits lower than my house's basement and is about 150' or so from it. It also is next to a few trees.
I live in Atlanta where thunderstorms are prevalent, especially these next couple of months. The rules I have for the shed are the same as a pool, we hear thunder getting close; everything is shutdown and we go inside. Safety is my #1 concern but I want to be able to continue playing golf throughout a storm. Frying approximately $10,000 worth of electronics is not ideal either. I'm fine with putting a ground rod on the shed, but I don't know if that will effectively attract lightning or deter it, which is why I'm asking such a rudimentary question.
Thanks,
DS
