Where is it stated in the NEC that pendant luminaires require a swivel??
My guess is it is somewhere in 410. I hope someone knows. thanks,

I've never heard of such a thing.

I looked at Part VII of Article 410 (Construction of Luminaires), especially 410.76 Design and Material, and saw nothing.

Any more info you can give us?

well, all i've been told is that pendant luminaires require a swivel so that they don't break due to vibration and that this should be somewhere in the code. i hope someone can help.

Ask who told you that where it is in the Code. The NEC doesn't have such a requirement.

Fixtures......er, luminaires.... may require a swivel mount if the can be installed on a slope ceiling, but that would be part of the listing, not the NEC.

The only place I know of that this is required is for classified locations. See 501.130(A)(3), 501.130(B)(3) and the same sections in 502 and 503.
