Do shunt trips circuit breakers take up an extra space?

In my experience yes, any of these smaller ones I have installed have taken up an extra space.

So when I install a 3 pole 50 amp shunt trip it is going to use up four spaces.

As irwire said, "the smaller ones". Usually with the larger molded case breakers, larger as in distribution style, (not amperage) they dont'.
