I would appreciate any comments, especially any past experiences with being able to apply 422.31(B) to a steam generator installation.

I have a 180 kW steam generator that serves a cage wash. We have a lockable breaker. Do you know if any electrical code that would prohibit this type of installation.

I know some inspectors may not allow it. What has been your experience?

Thanks for the help.

If an inspector does not "allow" it, what code section is he citing that prohibits it?

This seems like an appliance to me so I think it applies.

That is how I interpret it as well. As there is no other code section that I can could find that applies to a steam generator. I think the contractor is saying that the manufacturer made the comment that some boiler inspectors require a disconnect for the steam generator.

how would the CB not qualify as a disconnect?

you asked about a specific section of the electrical code. it may be that there are requirements in some boiler code that are different.
