I once got to look through a old code book, and the best I remember it was from back in the 30's...real small...fit in your shirt pocket.....and I was amazed that it had the six switch rule in it, and it was virtually the same verbage as today...

I do not hunt them down, but if I come across one I will hold on to it. My oldest code book is my first, the 1996. Woo-hoo! I have a handbook from '54 or '51. I liked the verbage in there for wall spacing. It is very general.

Here's a '51 and an '05.....to show you the size difference.

Here's the whole collection:

Not shown is a 1949, which I recently acquired. I already had a 1949 supplement to the '47......

I know you'll probably consider this blasphemy and sacrilege, but I threw away a copy of the 1984 once. My reasoning was it was over 15 years old at the time and I had no use for an outdated code book. I kind a regret it now however.

480, your one's from the 50's are all brown paper, but mine are all red hard covers. Were there two different kinds then?

I've seen some of those. I wonder if it was from a different printer. I've had some, but have replaced them with the brown ones as I find them. The '49 I just got looks a lot like the 1947 below.

There's some oddballs out there:

WoW!
Very interesting.
My first code book is the 1978.
Is there anyplace you can look at the inside of old code books on line?
I enjoy comparing my little collection to each other.
Thanks for sharing this

My oldest is 1916 and I have all of the NECs from sometime in the 50's to date (I'd have to look but too lazy at the moment). Also have a few hand books and a complete set of AuDells from the 1920's.
