I hope you are not suggesting that we need another "thou shalt not" rule, just because some individual, who is obviously a few bricks short of a load, produced this creation.

There will always be people that do stupid things, especially "overzealous football fans". :)

Now, I realize that rules, and their administration, is your area of expertise, but I hope that you aren't proposing that another rule, that would affect normal people, is required.

ED:

No, I am not proposing any rule that would affect people.

I wanted to call attention to the following rules in the 2002 NEC found in Article 240:

240.5 Protection of Flexible Cords, Flexible Cables, and Fixture Wires.

Flexible cord and flexible cable, including tinsel cord and extension cords, and fixture wires shall be protected against overcurrent by either 240.5(A) or (B).

(B)(3) Extension Cord Sets.

Flexible cord used in listed extension cord sets, or in extension cords made with separately listed and installed components, shall be permitted to be supplied by a branch circuit of Article 210 in accordance with the following:

20-ampere circuits ? 16 AWG and larger
See the ROP Proposal 10-27 for the 2005 NEC where there are significant changes proposed.

Flexible cord used in listed extension cord sets, or in extension cords made with separately listed and installed components, shall be permitted to be supplied by a branch circuit of Article 210 in accordance with the following:

Using listed components, I don't see why you couldn't make up your own extension cord.

Why would anyone want to make an extension cord for a simple (non-specialty) use, when a pre-made extension cord can be bought for much less than the cost of the materials to make one (even ignoring the labor)?
