Does the NEC require AFCI for an Attic Fan circuit

There appears to be some confusion in the latest NEC 2020 wrt to AFCI.
Does an attic fan circuit require an AFCI?
Also, in your experience do Attic Fans cause AFCI to trip often?

I'm picturing an attic exhaust fan, not a whole-house unit.

Usually attic fans are controlled by a t'stat.

210.12 gives the locations required to be AFCI

If any controller (switch, thermostat, etc,) in an an AFCI required area then the circuit would need to be AFCI protected.
