Doing Work for a Bank

I have been contacted by someone who works on foreclosed homes for a bank. He needs an EC so he contacted me for a bid on the work that needs to be done. I gave him a bid to do some work on the inside and "change" the service. In my bid I made it plan that the bid was for me piping the service from under the carport, not complete removal. I talked with the PC and told them about my idea to pipe the service from under the carport to the side of the house. They were not sure if they would re-connect it after I piped it out. I'm suppose to meet with there engineer to look at some ideas. I'm not sure if I want to do business with these people, first off because I'm not going to get paid until 21 day later, and secondly because the guy between me and the bank doesn't know how to explain things to his people about the timing on my side. Everything seems to be a rush! I have done one really small job for them before. Anyway, how would you guys deal with this?

Be sure the person writting the check (BANK) knows what you are doing and why. Get name, rank and cerial #. Foreclosed housing is a very tricky business. Do a notice to owner before you start.

Notice to owner might be tricky. Meres corp is the official owner of paper on mortgaged properties. They trade buy sell mortgages. Sometimes the originator of the mortgages forget to put a copy in the official record at the courthouse.
Get a service or lawyer to do the notice to owner. There might be a better chance of noticing all the right parties.
or
Get paid up front, if they want it that bad they will.

21 days??? I'm lucky to get paid at all from some of my customers.

Ask to talk to the rep from the bank and ask for a faxed conformation of the work order. If its not written down it didn't happen. Get a contract, somehow.

I have a bank that I do work for on forclosures.

The first thing to remember is that they are idiots. They do not have the first clue.

I need to provide a before and after pictures of everything I do. They refused to pay until I could provide a before and after picture of a meter terminal I tightend. Maybe I should have marked it with my sharpie so they could see it was turned. I sent them two of the same picture and they were happy.

If only they had paid as much attention to the mortgages they were writing 4 years ago.......

I was going to tell you to MAKE SURE the local PD & SP know you are going to be working at the Bank before you pull the meter. Talk about dust flying and sliding cars.

I guess that goes along with what the others are saying...make sure the right people know amd the paper work is complete.

Yea ..I love leaving a bank building after a service call and watching the PD sliding up the sidewalk in their cruisers ... hidding behind the trees & the bushes ... GUNS DRAWN...

a real career changer...

I'm real careful around banks. No phone lines, no un-escorted tasks.

Just like unknowingly activating a silent panic in a pharmacy doing electrical work....The place has been robbed before, so the cops (3) came in the door guns hot. I've never seen a floor so up close and personal, my unshaven face and linemens in hand gave me a guilty look. It's funny, now, the cops and I were laughing after....but I digress completely off topic.

I drilled through the alarm lines from the suite next door, and of course didn't even realize I had done it. Even the pharmacist was a surprised when the cops showed up and had him get down on the ground. Of course I'm next door wondering what all the comotion is about.

The thing about working for banks, or doctors or lawyers is that they are usually slow to pay. One time one took so long (and didn't include an ivoice) that it took me a week to figure out why I was getting a check from a law firm (I didn't know they owned the building), I mean like six months for a $200 job that I had already written off.

How's that for a headache? They wouldn't call you if they didn't have a problem. Then they try to jerk you around & act like you knocked on the door to sell them something.
