door jamb switch

I vaguely remember a thread discussing door jamb switches, and I think someone posted one which has a contact similar to those used for alarms. So all that shows in the jamb is a 3/4" ball or contact. It also discussed the traditional door switch.

Anyone have any info on this product or thread? I did a search, but came up empty.
