I am looking to wire a door relay ( mr 201) to drop a mag lock out in fire condititon. Is it ok to wire the relay to a horn/strobe so the relay drops the mag when the horn sounds? or do I have to run it back to the facp and program it there? Much easier at the horn/strobe. It is an adressable system.

Its an addressable system you do not have to go all the way back to the panel, use an addressable relay module. You can either extend the SLC to the Maglock or extend one leg of the power to the SLC and install a relay on it.

Personally, I install a relay at the power supply to cut the power, because I am normally killing power to multiple mag locks and wouldn't put a relay at each maglock.

I am going to put the relay next to the mag but my question is can I use the horn /strobe to drop the the relay? When the horn goes off the mag drops is this ok?

If you mean the horn strobe (NAC) will be wired to a SPST relay, then no, a NAC is not used for that purpose. A NAC has indicating devices, only. It would technically work, but is a bad idea and not code compliant.

The relay must be activated by the FACP, but must comply with proper circuit wiring, and be listed for fire service.

Use an addressable relay either at the maglock or the maglock power supply. Unless you plan on running the relay trip back to the Alarm contacts on the panel, but that would be...silly.

Oh and if the maglock power supply has batteries as a secondary power source, you might want to remove them... see 2010 72.21.9.3

you could do that. You would've needed to use a relay listed for use with that particular FACP. These days, I don't know, but the tech support folks for the brand of system you are working on would.

Personally, I would encourage you to think ahead. Follow nhfire77's lead; extend the addressable loop & use an addressable relay. This method allows you to disable the mag door lock function (either manually at the keypad or via programming) during system testing, increasing the building's security.

Not permissible with any current production panel AFAIK, maybe a Simplex, but not Honeywell products. You cannot have notification devices and mixed with releasing devices on the same circuit. I cannot quote any code specifically stating that, but an install manual will tell you what is compatible. (you wont find relays)
