Dorm considered as a dwelling unit?

If you are designing a student housing like a dorm do you consider that as a dwelling unit cause even in IBC and NEC i dont see dorm falling under a dwelling unit cause dorms dont have any permanent provisions for cooking.

Understood the AFCI part but how about the layout of the receptacles?Do we still follow 6x12 rule or just layout based on the furniture?

If i interpret correctly it says that sleeping room in a dorm shall comply with 6x12 rule 210.52(A) and when i go to 210.52(A) it says all receptacles in living room,dining room and bedrooms shall comply with 6x12 spacing.Does that mean i have to basically apply 6x12 rule to all the rooms except the hallways and bathrooms?

Sorta. Plan that each college student will have computer gear, a gaming set up, and a fridge/micro combo as a minimum.
