Is it a problem to have a 400 amp service self contained fed by 500 mcm and take a 400 amp service off of the load side of meter can and a 100 amp service?

Maybe.

As long as the 400 amp and 100 amp conductors are not both jammed under the same terminals it should be fine.

Bob, Would one not also have to take calculated load into consideration. If the supply conductors to te meter socket are 500 kcmil, would the total load on the two load side conductors not be limited to 380 amps ?
