When installing empty conduits in which that want a drag line installed what is the drag line usually used for? Pulling in rope if conduit installed is for large conductors?

What size drage line is used? Is it dependent on the conduit size and whether data line or electrical?

Reason for doing are: Testing/proving the conduit ( on conduits installed for poco to pull conductors into, my poco requires proving with a mandrel and then leaving a pull installed), measuring the total length, and having a tape to pull a rope in.

On smaller conduits I pull this one:

On larger ones I’ll pull the kind that @infinity posted. Or on poco conduits. They have a specific tape they want, and it’s that one.

A mule tape will provide extra strength when having very long runs with larger cables. I pulled 15kV medium voltage cable from a substation to a utility services center where we had manholes every 500'. I wouldn't trust that Tru-Tape to pull the 1" rope that far.

Yeah, Tru-tape is only rated for about 175 pounds and can easily be snapped when pulling in a 1" pull rope. When we need to measure a conduit run we pull in a tru-tape along with a drag line.

YUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Check your prices. 3000 feet of this costs about $85. 3000 feet of 1/2" mule tape costs about $135. Do the math and I think you will agree that in 300 feet you can find $50 in savings. using scraps to tie ladders to your truck. Pulling smaller feeders without pulling in an additional rope. Reusing a run, etc. None of which you can do with the above. Once I showed this to my company, we have several rolls of the 435 still on the shelf unused.

It’s nice because it’s marked per foot, but I’ve had issues with it burning into pvc 90’s when pulling a large pull rope in on long runs.
