In Class I Div. 1 area, what is the installation method to:
Install low point drain on a LB type fitting rated for the area?
Is it permissible to drill and tap for a factory fitting to be able to install a low point drain in LB type fitting?
Note: The conduit and the LB fitting is above 2 1/2".
Thanks

The most common arrangement is a ?T? with an XP drain rather than an ?LB? at the low point. Field drilling and tapping an explosionproof enclosure generally voids its rating. A few explosionproof enclosures may be field modified but only the manufacturer can tell you whether it is permissible or not.

If you are going to drill a hole in an explosion proof enclosure you may as well save some money and use a NEMA 3R, 4, or 12 enclosure, because once you drill a hole you no longer have an explosion proof enclosure. I don't know how you are going to pass inspection with either one of them.

There are fittings designed to drain moisture they thread into an unused opening on an enclosure or put in a tee as has been mentioned.

I think what Bob might meant to say that fittings should not be modified.

There are untapped explosion proof (junction) boxes that can be drilled and tapped with the number and sizes of holes as per the manufacturers instructions. They come untapped, so if you want to use it for anything more than to hide your cards for lunchbreak, ye shall tap it!:D
