Anyone here use DSC burg panels with their GSM modules?

GS-3060 GS-3055ICF or any other DSC GSM module

Specifically have you used their longer antennas for the GSM radio such as the GS-15ANT or GS-25ANT and has it given enough to get a decent signal?

I am wondering if the $ and time will produce results. I realize every situation is different, just looking for your experiences.

I use them all the time, very few problems with reception. I like 'em. The newer Alexor panel has one built in as an option, which supposedly can even be used for remote programming. (I've haven't done it yet, but they say you can...)

I've never used the extension kit, although I have one sitting in stock "just in case."

I've even got one out in a Podunk town with very little cell reception, and it works great. (Granted, I mounted in the attic of a two story house, but it works!)

You'll have to setup an account with Connect24 to use them. http://www.connect24.com

Best of luck.

I use the GS-3060 regularly with great success as is, and I use the other antennas for pole barn type app's where the building is wrapped in steel or some other interference issues.

The antennas have saved the job on occasion!

The alexor is what I have, with the integral GSM card. I had signal. It was working for two months, now, no signal.

It doesn't make any sense. They use the AT&T network only.

I have an Apple Iphone 3GS. With 3G service showing on the phone, I have 4 out of 5 bars standing in front of the panel. DSC tech support insists that if it is showing GSM network trouble/receiver trouble its a signal strength issue, not a unit issue. The unit is located in the inside set of stairs going to the basement. Is the internal antenna that weak, and the Iphone that much better?

Well, I'm not entirely convinced. I am taking a 3060 GS out there and holding it next to the existing panel to test the signal strength.

This is making me look bad in the eyes of the customer considering there already was a bad door/window sensor.

I've never actually had a failure of DSC equipment in under a year before, kinda disturbing.

Like any GSM device, an inch either way can make a huge difference - I would try to relocate (a little ;)) first!

Not really an option but I am going to make sure that it is not the Radio itself by testing with another radio first.

Then if that shows poor signal still it will get the antenna extended into the attic. I would have put the unit there, but the temp would get too hot i believe.

Im just confused by the fact that I almost had full signal strength with the iphone with NO signal on the Alexor GSM. I'm shocked that it was such a marked difference.

I agree - I'd try at least temporarily relocating first. The great thing about the Alexor is that it is incredibly easy to move.

Something to remember, your phone uses GSM "traffic channels" where your back-up radio or alarm radio uses "control channels" - two completely different operations.

There will always be a difference between them...

I'm not so sure about that. It uses The GPRS channel on the GSM network Is that the same as a control channel?

Also if the signal is broadcast for both channels from the same tower why is it different?

It's encrypted packet data, not a text message. I don't know the exect difference.

It does use the control channels, I've confirmed that with Connect24 before. Usually, the control side is more reliable as it has less traffic on it. When you place a call, it is placed on the control channel until a connection is established, at which point it is moved to the traffic channels, where the call actually takes place. The data from an alarm is so small, it makes sense to only use the control channels.
