DSF filter for alarm system

Do I need to use the special 8 pin DSL filter for an alarm panel? Or can I use a regular DSL filter and cut a phone jack in? Like all alarms, this one is set up for phone line seizure.

Right now, I have a single DSL filter after the alarm panel for all the house phones. When I install the filter at the alarm panel, will I be able to eliminate the regular DSL filter I am using for the phones now?

That's OK George. You can go back to dragging your knuckles on the ground now. :D

I don't think the filter would be allowed unless it was listed for alarm use. And I am not sure if its needed.

There is some info here. I used a splitter for my installation. You intall that at the network interface and run the DSL line to the modem from the splitter. All of the other lines connect to the other side of the splitter.

You install the filter BEFORE the RJ-31x alarm jack. All phones come off the other side of the jack. The dedicated DSL line to the modem is connected directly to the demarc AHEAD of the filter. Got it?
