OK, new construction with Geothermal. We have a 2 x 200A service, and we need to install a dual meter housing, like... Milibank U1252-X-k1.

Problem is that this thing is too wide, and needs to site on the side of the garage. (D5", W26", H14")

Don't think this is legal, but can you mount the thing sideways. Meter would be be rotated 90 degrees. So it would be 26" high, and 14" wide.

-Or-

Any opinions if I could install two single 200 A Meters (ala, U7040-RL-TG). Question would be how to tie them together?

-or-

Can you just mount the meter next to the transformer. Its about 50 feet away. There will be a disconnect right inside the garage.

Any suggestions much welcome.

No you won't be able to mount them sideways. Why don't you look for a better location to mount them, I'll bet your electrician could help you figure out a good spot for them. :D

I don't think it would be rain tight if you mounted it sideways.
I have seen some skinny double stacked meters with disco,s.
I think they we're Westinghouse or the BR version of Cutler Hammer.

You need to contact a service planner at DTE. Call their 1-800-477-4747 number and ask for a service planner in your area. They can help you with their requirements.
I wouldn't advise mounting sideways as they are designed to be weatherproof in the upright position only.
