I was watching a show about splicing on the network in NYC and Con Edison was using a dual element lamp tester to phase the connections. I googled but I can't find anything on them-- does anybody have a link to them?or used one. I've used lamps to test circuits but I've never seen a daul element tester/lamp

FWIW-I was kind of surprised that their network was 120/240 three phase

Thanks

Cadpoint, i beleive that those post are refering to a ground detection lights that were installed on a ungrounded delta system. Those 3 light systems are still in use in some of the old factories in this area. what I saw they were using basically as a phasing/voltage tester one element on;120--both elements on;240-- none on;same phase.

Pig..I saw that show also.Maybe it's a 240 volt bulb?

Ed

I agree with the 240 rated but on TV it looks to have two separate filaments. I tried calling Con Ed today but couldn't get thrrough to anybody with answers.

Ya that something that did bring back my European days with this set up and yes it indeed a specal dual filmant bulb and IIRC one did have a resitor in there so one can able read X amout of voltage while the second filment read true voltage.

Normally with phasing bulbs they are used with in series { X of bulbs depending the system voltage }

It the same techquie as paralleling the generators with the lights so you have two set of bulbs one A phase while second sets of bulb on B phase so to get in sychronous both light have to be out if dim ya are close but need to rotation a little more then ya nail it.

It was the same way in old Edison DC days they used the lamps as well.

The modern days used the sychrouns scope now it is far more safer.

pig, remember the floor lamps that had a twist switch for the " three way bulb " 50w or

100w or both for 150w, would that work for you?
